Emotional Freedom
Practical Philosophy continues after the Introductory Course – The Wisdom Within, with classes that advance and guide students to open their awareness more fully and connect more deeply within themselves. Each Foundation Course covers a single theme that builds on the material introduced in The Wisdom Within. Foundation courses are offered in no particular order, at different times of the year.
The next foundation course, Emotional Freedom, will be offered starting Tuesday, 3rd of February 2026. The course consists of one session per week for 10 weeks, on Tuesday evenings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Each session lasting 2 hours with a short break in the middle. The cost for this 10-week course is $219.
There is a great deal of psychological research on the subject of emotion. Indeed, we might say that in the 20th and current centuries there has been an explosion of interest in understanding emotion and its effects. It is beyond our scope to consider all the aspects of emotional psychology. We will be taking an essentially philosophical approach, but nevertheless it is useful to include some of these concepts. We might say that the emotions we experience have a significant effect on our experience of life. Indeed, in many ways they create our lives. Therefore, it is well worth enquiring as fully as we can into this.
Enrol online before 30th November by using the promo code “Early Bird” and pay only $199 per person.

About the course
One if the concepts put forward in the Daniel Goleman’s book Emotional Intelligence is that of self-mastery of the emotions. This is not a new concept
by any means. It describes the ability to withstand the emotional storms that the buffeting of fortune brings, as opposed to being ‘passion’s slave’, which is a reference
to both Plato and Shakespeare. “Give me that man that is not passion’s slave, and I will wear him in my heart’s core, ay, in my heart of heart, As I do thee”.
Hamlet, speaking to Horatio (Act III Scene 2), “Passion lives within him as a tyrant.” Plato, Republic Book 9 574E
Overview
This course, is looking at how we can working increasing access to freedom through the emotional realm. When we are in movement it is hard to see clearly what is happening. But when there has been some recourse to stillness there is some detachment and with that a clearer vision and greater sense of freedom.
