The Presence of Mind
Practical Philosophy continues after the Introductory Course – The Wisdom Within, with classes that advance and guide students to open their awareness more fully and connect more deeply within themselves. Each Foundation Course covers a single theme that builds on the material introduced in The Wisdom Within. Foundation courses are offered in no particular order, at different times of the year.
This foundation course, Presence of Mind, will be offered starting Monday, 25th of May 2026 at 6:30pm. The course consists of one session per week for 10 weeks. There will be no lecture on Monday 8th June, public holiday and there will be a term break on Monday 6th July. Last lecture will be Monday 10th August 2026 6:30pm. The cost for this 10-week course is $219. Enrol before the 30th April 2026 and enter the “Early Bird” code for only $199. For healthcare or pensioner card the price is only $159.

About the course
Without awareness in and of the present moment, it’s impossible to see the way forward. We cannot act freely, so we react with knowledge from the past or desire for the future. Either way, we are simply recycling experience. The thing is to be, here and now, instead of constantly becoming something other than what we are. The course also deals with the relationship between the past, present and future, and the relationship between cause and effect which arises out of this relationship.
Overview
Presence of mind is the working surface of practical philosophy. Presence of mind involves a consideration of the faculties of mind that are available to us. We consider questions such as:
- What does it mean to be really present, now?
- What are the powers and capabilities of a human being living in the present moment?
- What is contained in the present moment?
- Can philosophy work at any other time than in the present?
- What can be learned from the past to prepare for the future?
Refund Policy:
