‘The Wisdom Within’ introduces you to some of the great philosophical teachings from around the globe and allows participants to look at life and its meaning, the world and its causes. It asks what holds us back? What sets us free? and importantly invites students to see life as a place to test the words of the wise. Are they applicable now, centuries later? As companions on this exploration, we have concepts and ideas put forward by some of the greatest minds; Socrates, Plato, Confucius, Buddha, Epicurus, Emerson, Vivekananda and a modern exponent of the philosophy of Unity, Shantananda Saraswati.
‘THE WISDOM WITHIN’ course also explores ways of bringing humanity’s great philosophical insights into our everyday lives, placing the emphasis on learning from our own experience, that most powerful of teachers. It poses the question Who am I? and gives practical ways to explore the answer.
Themes explored in the 10-week practical course include:

About the course
Drawing on the great philosophic ideas of both East and West, past and present, this course explores the meaning of wisdom, truth, consciousness, the real nature of Humanity and what inhibits its development.
It is for all, regardless of education, age, race, political or religious beliefs.
The philosophy of the course is that Humanity in truth is limitless and that there is a unity underlying all the apparent diversity in our daily lives. This is known as non-dualistic philosophy.
Overview
Above all, this course is about practical philosophy. This means that the principles discussed in class can be put to effective practical use in work, study and every aspect of daily life. No previous knowledge of the subject is necessary.
Classes are conducted in a friendly and openhearted atmosphere. Philosophical principles and examples are presented to the class, and students are encouraged to discuss these in the light of their own experience and to seek further understanding of the principles by putting them into practice during the week.
Simple exercises are also given that help to strengthen attention and bring rest and clarity to the mind.
The course is offered normally twice a year and there are subsequent courses for those who wish to continue the study of this philosophy.

Meditation
For those drawn to look within, the practice of Meditation is offered as a natural continuation of study beyond the introductory course – where knowledge begins to flower into direct experience.
Meditation.
Described as the master key to all measure, meditation opens the mind to perceive balance and harmony within and without. In the stillness of deep meditation, the mind becomes quiet and clear, free to appreciate the perfection and proportion inherent in all things.
The system of meditation offered by the School of Practical Philosophy is mantra-based. Though this ancient practice has its origins in India, it carries no religious affiliation or restriction. Its purpose is to awaken the human spirit – unbound by creed or culture – and to nourish a deeper awareness that supports and enriches every aspect of life.
